On my Spitfire (asleep in the weather for seven years), I removed the
sparkplugs and squirted oil in the cylinder bores.  I also poured oil into
the valvetrain under the rocker cover.  I then attempted to turn the engine
by hand, but had to un-stick the clutch first.  Cranked the engine over
with the starter, without plugs installed, until the oil pressure came up;
then put everything together for the final run.

YMMV, I know mine did, as my alternator, electronic ignition, and battery
were all dead, and the exhaust had been plugged by critters (disgruntled
Marmots?).
