Well, thats kinda how I figured it out. My flasher switch is completely bad,
both sides.  I jumped it out of the circuit so I could have turn signals and
have lived without the 4 way.  The four way actually works, as shorting that
side of the switch shows.  I have just been unable to bring myself to spend
the obscene price for replacement.

Which is exactly what happened to me so I ran a separate wir to the
flasher relay.
