Peter:

In my shop, I have two speedometers - one which I know came from a '75 model,
and one which I was told came from a '73-'74 model. I can't confirm the
later, but I can confirm that they are not from the same year TR6. The person
I got it from was told by the vendor he got it from that it was a '73-'74 TR6
speedo. However, as Triumph and other British car makers used similar speedo
units in different makes and models, I can't be 100% certain that the second
unit is even from a TR6.

I can tell you this, though - the two speedometers use exactly the same cable
input. It has been over three years ago, but at one time I seem to remember
that I compared the '75 speedometer with my '71, for the same concerns that
you have, and at the time thought they were identical. From crawling under
the dash in my '71 and looking, they all appear to have the same thread sizes
(the '75, the '71, and whatever the other one is).

Bottom line? I can not be absolutely certain. If someone else with first hand
experience says they are different, I would be surprised, but I would believe
them. I apologize for adding to the confusion. If you decide to go ahead and
try the swap, please let me know how it works out.
