Interesting question, Larry. According to spare parts catalogues, etc.,
this probably is not correct. But as with so many other things Triumph, it
is probably impossible to document what piles of spares might have been
used (or used up) for cars destined for certain markets, such as the U.S.. 
Your '66 could be absolutely correct, or maybe the original rims were
damaged, then replaced early on by whatever was on the shelf at a dealer's
shop, or ???

Perhaps it's like asking why the Australian Triumph 12/50 Coupe' used the
old-style roof years after Triumph had revised the design of the roof, or
why those same Australian cars continued to use the white-face Jaeger
gauges and the old-style dashboards.

BTW, Triumphs Only in San Jose, CA, <tmx.com/triumphsonly/nos_list.htm>
shows Lucas #54520154 Herald headlamp rim in their list of NOS stuff for
sale. I believe that Lucas number corresponds to the early style (don't
have my parts books with me).
