..and I agree, this fine and about as cheap as you'll get, unless you
go with a really cheap glass-pack like Thrush (just measure your pipe
o.d. and find one to fit); they sell for about $15. PLUS you get a
way-cool sticker to put on your window, or fender, or your guitar...
and the sticker will probably out-last the muffler.

Gosh, Tom, are you suggesting that I would use an inferior low cost cheapo
part on my pristine 64 Spit (snicker, snicker). Actually, the shop told me
about the differences between cheap and not so cheap glasspacks before hand.
What I did not explain is that the reason it was only $100 for the whole
sheebang is that my neighbor (the hot rod builder) is really good friends
with the owner of the shop - saved me about $75 to $100 on the deal. The
install is flawless, beautiful welds, special mounts look factory designed,
etc.

In fact though, in some ways I have been a lousy cheapskate - e.g., re-using
a windshield that has two pretty good scratches in it and a lot of pitting,
then re-installing it, cracking it in the process and saying, "oh, what the
H_ll, I'll replace it later". Frankly, I was too damned tired and pissed to
work on it anymore. I do plan to replace it within the next few months, but
I really want to drive the car for a while.

Overall, I agree with you through, cheap parts = cheap owner = cheap
looking/sounding/running car = DPO. And, yeah, the Thrush sticker is kind
of cool looking. Remember the "Moon" and "Hooker Headers" stickers back in
high school?
