Tom,
Taken in that context(nautical) a "Cat's Head" is like a bowsprit,
in that it is a forward projecting beam, located at the bow. Unlike a
bowsprit, however, in that its primary function is for supporting the
anchor while under weigh, ye landlubber, ye....
