There is a difference here between a header and an exhaust manifold  . . . .
am I right?

The header is usually tubular steel, where as manifolds are cast iron.

I  think I remember an article somewhere saying,  NOT to wrap the cast iron
manifolds.  

They already retain enough heat to keep the exhaust gasses nice and thin,
(and thus easier flowing) and also the cast iron can not take the high heat
that comes about from insulating them.

You seem to be good evidence of this fact.
