Andy,
        Yes the Spider gears are welded to the cage.  I've heard this 
referred to as a Detroit locker before, so that's why I used the term in 
my post.  I believe that is the correct definition.
        Boy it is a wierd feeling to have the car shimmy around tight 
corners.  I suppose I'll get used to it.  I do notice less wheelspin 
though; I didn't realize that before I was spinning only 1 tyre.
        I was thinking I'd buy two of those flowmax low-restriction box 
mufflers and mount those underneath the trunk to rid myself of the noise 
my car makes, but after a few good 6-grand shifts from that sweet revving 
six engine, the thought mostly left my brain...
