I know you wanted to be there. My son took pictures and I hope
some are good.
The battery caps screwed into the 6 vent holes on top of each
of the cells of a LUCAS battery. The hose connected the caps
and vented any hydogen gas down through a hole the trunk
floor. This was in the MK I and IA.
The story I got from a genuine Rootes test engineer was that
a Tiger was running a long term high speed test when the
gas from an overcharging battery blew up and almost burnt
the facility down.
The MK II's had a red plastic 'manifold' that ran across the top
of the battery and had a small nipple at the end. A shorter
vent hose then ran to trunk floor. The manifold said LUCAS
lenthwise.
At the SUNI in Big sky the winning concurs car had a repro
LUCAS battery and had the caps and hose. I believe there is
firm in Penna that reproduces concurs batteries for nuts
like you and I. The include FOMOCO, LUCAS, and others.
I have never seen the caps for sale anywhere. The hose would
be easy to duplicate.
