Before I switched back to stock, I ran into the same problem.
Finally a plumber friend took same scrap 1/2 and 5/8 copper
pipes, inserted the 1/2 into the 5/8 and then soldered it well.
Left about 4 inches on each end.  I cut to what I needed and
then clamped it well.  Never leaked a drop.  You can push
the hoses together so that the union almost disappears.
