Boy, I don't like the sound of that , noisy lifters mean low or no oil press.
Check the pick up tube for cracks, or a poor seal at the block, also I've seen
a lifter come out of its bore , this will create a skip[ that you will think
is caused by low oil press at the lifters and is because of the lifter coming
out].
