To my Spritely friends:

In a shameless attempt to brutalize even more O.P.R.s (Other People's
Racecars) under the thoroughly transparent pretext of "writing a magazine
story about it," I'd like to do a piece on racing Sprites to commemorate the
Sprite's 50th anniversary and my own insatiable desire to get fast laps in
for free. I think the Sprite is pretty much everybody's favorite "generic"
starter racecar, and the angle I'm taking has to do with prep levels, period
vs. modern tech and moreover the attitude and approach that goes along with
the way the car is done. What I'd really like is to sample maybe three or
four different Sprites (say 15 mins. each) that run the gamut from close as
possible to Original Period Correct to Current Vintage "Fun" Level to
Serious Hole in the Wallet Level to Insane Laser-Guided Techno-Whizbang
Monster from Hell (are you listening, Dr. J???).

Best bet for those stupid enough to have an interest would be during
practice on the Friday, Sat. am or Sun. am at BFR (or possibly later at
Grattan, but I'd like to get the piece in the mag this calendar year) and,
in the past, the club has occasionally allowed me to run cars in an
alternate practice group so I don't take track time away from the regular
driver.

Just so everybody knows, I DO NOT take responsibility for stuff that breaks,
falls off, fractures in two or explodes in a shrapnel-laden ball of flame. I
am, however, inclined to write a check if I drive something into a brick
wall due to advancing age or stupidity or come in with the tach needle
pointing towards the passenger-side door (LHD only).

In any case, you get yer picture (or your car's, anyway) in the funny pages,
and maybe even a mention or two in print. And I might even (considering the
times and headlines) kick in for gas.

Interested prospective suckers, dupes and pigeons can contact me at
thinkfast@mindspring.com

I can see the furrowed brows and smell the melting ear wax from here!
