Mini is illegal in New York State This was in todays paper:

Albany, New York:

An amendment attached to a highway spending bill passed by the New York
State Assembly today bans the Mini Cooper from New York state highways.
State assemblyman Robert Smolaski (R 39th district) was quoted today
bthe era of small car is over in New York. These cars are too small and
have become a hazard to the majority of vehicles on our roads.b The new
law is a result of and incident involving his 2003 Cadillac Escalade and
a yellow Mini Cooper with a happy face in the rear window on the New
York State Thruway near Buffalo.

The new law bans the sale or use of the Mini on all New York State
roads. All mini dealers have been closed and if a Mini is spotted on the
road the car will be impounded and the driver jailed. The law also
includes out of state drivers.

The new law is scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2003
