Looking for some thoughts on fixing what I have learned is a well known
Sprite problem. I did not realize how badly the drivers side read hub seal
was leaking diff oil at Gingerman and ended up cooking my rear end. I tore
the rear axles and hubs off this week end and still cannot figure out why we
are eating up seals on this side.
The double bearing hubs look OK and axles are straight. We ruined a rear
seal the first day at Gingerman (which had worked fine for the better part of
a year) and ultimately lost the diff oil which is what caused the diff
failure. We replaced the seal on Sat but still had a leak. When we tore it
apart on Sun morning, the new seal was trashed (eaten up). I borrowed
another from Kansa for Sun afternoon and that one, I just discovered, has
been ground to pieces. I cannot see or feel any roughness on the carrier.
Where do I start to look and what do I do next?
