There is certainly a good chance that as shares in the mining company the
certificate is worthless.  I remember seeing a few weeks back on the TV news
or some such, that there is actually quite an active, if somewhat small,
collector group out there that deals in old stock certificates, bonds, etc.

You may be able to get something out of it one way or another.
