Chuck,
Obvious - You have not been using English coolant ! =C2=A0=F0=9F=98=83
=C2=A0
Seriously, I've never seen this before so I can only suggest in the=20
dark. =C2=A0If others have come across it please shout out..... =C2=A0
* The inside of the thermostat housing should not be scored by the=20
top of the thermostat, there should be a clearance. =C2=A0This may suggest=
=20
that one or the other is the wrong English part that may look as if it=20
is the right one, but it was made for something else and just looks as=20
if it fits. =C2=A0
* Could it be the upper housing (the bit you are going to weld)=20
and/or the bottom have been filed or smoothed down at their joining=20
surfaces (perhaps for a closer fit) and this brought the top of the=20
upper housing down onto the thermostat? =C2=A0
*
Is the cut-out groove that seats the thermostat clear ? =C2=A0
Best wishes
Guy R Day

Well it had to happen somewhere... right?
How about an English made thermostat in an English engine damaging the=20
English correct thermostat housing?
For ever I've endured the wrong part from some backyard parts supplier=20
stuck in where it does not belong.=C2=A0 This time it's a seemingly proper=
=20
part in a proper car....
Anyone else find this on their car?=C2=A0=C2=A0
I'm going to aluminum weld the crack just because the casting is too=20
nice to recycle.=C2=A0 Usually I find these horribly corroded where the hos=
e=20
attached....this one is too nice....
