(1) a nipple on the fuel filter had collapsed on itself leaving only a pin
hole for the fuel to get by
(2) Dodgy wire connection to the original fuel pump that had gone bad over
the years. I ran that pump for 6 plus years, close to 7 years. Upon
replacing the wire connection a fuse blew. . but has been stable since I
replaced it with a new one.
(3) Finally the fuel pump itself went awry today which happened at a
shopping center near our house. I believe that the Facet was running off
and on over the period of time that I was having issues . . if they are
known to do that? So it might have been more than what looked like a dodgy
connection . .with the pump itself giving it up on a gradual basis?
My neighbor took me over to NAPA where I bought a new Facet. . It came to
$50 dollars and change. I installed it while the car was in the parking
lot across the street and it now is running, and with what feels like more
power at that.
Leave it to me to forget to bring an adjustable wrench. . I had to
improvise with a clamp that I found under one of the seats. For some reason
I got out of the habit of keeping tools with me in the car as I should.
Back to assembling a new tool kit for carry.
Now that the car is in the garage I need to replace the fuel lines which
have become hard over time and tighten down the connections to the Facet.
(This Facet came with it's own fuel filter as opposed to the last one, which
years ago cost $39.0).
Thanks to Pete Chast who was talking to me on email through the process.
I have a question . . what is the average life span of a Facet fuel pump?
Mine had been running faithfully for nearly 7 years.
Thanks,
Kirk
