It all started with bicycles a long time ago. Racing bicycles on UK public roads was outlawed after a serious accident occurred with a pedestrian. A workaround by race organizers was devised. Riders would be sent out on the course individually, without any markings on their cloths (or bikes) so as not to raise the suspicion of the law. Their times through the course would then be measured. This is how the "individual time trial" was born. |
