I fly RC model airplanes - both electric powered and gasoline powered (no
slimers). There are electronic sound sysems available that can make your
electric Piper Cub sound like the real thing. The sound of a real Cub
engine is digitized and played back through speakers in the model. The
engine note is sychronized to the speed of the prop. Very realistic
sounding.
Electric car manufacturers could do the same thing. Imagine your Chevy Volt
with the digitized exhaust note of a Ferrari. :-)
In fact the guvment make make the car manufacturers do something like this.
One of the big complaints with electric vehicles is that pedestrians can't
hear them coming as well as gas or diesel powered vehicles.
