<snip> Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced
that interstate travelers across the state's Northwestern region may soon
enjoy smoother travel following the installation of a new Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS). PennDOT says the region's ITS project will
mostly be funded by the federal government. Features of the new system will
include: traffic cameras, VMS and highway advisory radio systems on
Interstates 90, 86, 80, 79 and 376 in Butler, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence,
Mercer and Venango counties. Work will begin this spring. The completed
system is expected to come online by mid-2012, with testing continuing into
early 2013. <snip>
What you should read into this is that every vehicle using it will be
tracked, tagged and the owner / driver / occupants can be identified - but
this hasn't been mentioned. Cameras now look from approx 1 mile away and
front seat vehicle occupants can be seen and identified reasonably easily,
even in the dark! It is up to you to decide if you think this is good or
bad.
