The Ford Motor Company spent 2008 celebrating the centenary of its Model
T, while in 2009 the automaker sponsored a four-day celebration of its
vaunted Mustang. Though 2011 marks the 40th birthday of the Ford Pinto
compact car, Dearborn has not issued so much as a Tweet of recognition.
But on May 29, a group of Ford Pinto owners will set off from Denver on
the Pinto Stampede <http://www.pintostampede.com/> , a road trip
spanning half the country. Participants will drive to Carlisle, Pa., on
June 2, where they hope to give the much-maligned car the 40th birthday
party they feel it truly deserves.
