Linda: Ditto what Jay said, especially the wire wheel setup. Being the
anal person I am when I read ads stating " car underwent a nut and bolt
restoration to original specifications" I almost roll my eyes in wonderment
even before I look at the pictures. This car is really nice but within
minutes would be out of the points range for for gold or silver, possibly
even bronze when being judged. If you are the least bit interested in
restoring you car to "original" specifications get a copy of the JUDGING
STANDARDS and several different books available on Sprites and Midgets ,
read them front to back, go to lots of shows and look closely at the cars
displayed, join a list such as this, and get prepared to become anal.:) Oh
yea, TRIPLE THE RESTORATION BUDGET.
Most shops will not do the research to do a concours level or even for that
matter a restoration focused on originality. Or maybe I should say most
people are not willing to spend the money on a restoration focused on
originality. The details become expensive....
The really bad part is that almost as soon as the restoration is finished it
becomes an ongoing effort to slow down the aging process of its "fresh"
look. Iris has covered less than 2k miles and I keep looking at what needs
to be redone to keep her looking her best. Now, if I had a lift and a
climate controlled garage, bigger checkbook and..... You get the idea:)
Leo (not being so anal on the current project)

Everything is correct that you question.
The rear panels are light grey and the floor mats are period Amco mats. The
original rubber mats varied in their shades of blue, green, etc.
This looks like a nice car but it would get points deducted for other areas.
If you're interested in concours and historical info, get a copy of the
Concours
guidelines as well the books on Sprites in addition to Horlers. This list
has
less than a handful of people interested in originality.
PS I would doubt that this car has a period correct wire wheel setup.

List,
I know this Bugeye listed on eBay # 320669636262 (See link below) is
restored and I am not ragging on the work actually I like what he has done
and if it were mine I'd slap a nice white hardtop on it and drive all
winter. But I am trying to gather as much info as possible before I start my
Bugeye project so he are a few questions I'd like answered for the sake of
AH Sprite history not that I am going strictly original but I'll try to.
So can anyone tell me if the Speedwell/Iris Blue had:
1. Blue vinyl on dash trim? I thought Bugeyes were polished anodized.
2. Light blue rubber mat? It is clearly original but it does flash with the
seats is that normal?
3. Dark blue seats and rear boot short section of vinyl mat, looks original
but again clashes with the transmission mat.
4. Light blue boot panels deep inside the boot, I thought that was
aftermarket and they originally were empty.
5. Metal look, OUTER CROSS MEMBER SECTION located on the inside just before
the seats.
Thanks,
Linda
