I think it was you who brought to my attention the story about Carter
Albrecht. . . a case in Texas where Carter while on the drug Chantix went
beserk over an argument with his girl friend. For some reason he went to
the neighbors house and began to bang hard on his neighbors door. The
neighbor shot him dead through the front door and was later absolved . . no
penalty for his actions.
Carter Albrecht became the poster boy for the bad side of the drug Chantix .
. an anti smoking drug that messes with your nicotine receptors.
Texas, as I recall (correct me if I am wrong) began to allow concealed carry
around 1991? After which point the homicide rate began to drop
dramatically.
I had a concealed carry license for a while. . until I moved to a different
county where it expired. We had a police chief in a small town outside of
Sacramento by the name of Robert Byrd. Byrd was pro carry and as such he
would stay hours after work each day to process anyone who wanted to CC.
After a couple of years or so the police chief in Sacramento shut him down.
Byrd was an unusual character to say the least. But committed to second
amendment rights all the way.
The course was a very sobering experience as I became aware of the civil
actions that typically follow a self defense shooting. At least in
California, the civil issues that occur in the aftermath can get very
messy. You must be sure that you are matching force for force. . and still
you are very likely going to have problems.
