Monty,
I agree with Steve and would be careful: the midget has different
steering wheels and columns. Some mga steering wheels will fit some
midget steering columns.
My understanding is the following: Midgets in the US and in Europe have
different types of wheel spline counts and sizes. Before the facelift of
1970, UK cars had bakelite wheels with 52 splines. After the facelift,
still in the UK, the steering wheels and columns had 36 splines. In the
US, pre-facelift cars had steering wheels and columns with 36 splines,
but with a smaller steering column, so a wheel a US car would not fit a
post-1970 UK midget, even if both have 36 splines.
As I understand it, MGAs (or at least my dad's 1960 1600 MGA which he
bought in the US) has a steering wheel and column with 52 splines. I
have a bakeline steering wheel for a 1968 UK midget with 52 splines,
which does match the steering column on my dad's MGA.
