That is only true with wheels using tapered lug nuts. If the wheels you were
offered use a shouldered *mag* style lug then it will not work without
drilling/reaming the lug holes larger or ovaling them slightly. I tried to
fit a set of 100mm Libres and could not get the lug nuts to go in. I ended
up milling (effectively created an oval) the holes to correct size. I won't
be using them for any racing but will be fine for the street.

Not exactly true.
100 mm lug holes will work. I wouldn't run any races with them but they
fit and work.
As do BMW 4 lug 100mm rims. I saw them on a Morris Minor.
Mazda, Honda, BMW, VW, all fit. They are not "correct" but they fit.
