Have a look at a milling tool. From the sounds of what you need, you should
be able to cobble one up using an electric drill in a drill press stand and
a milling vice.
Your wiring is different from ours - tail lights stay lit when they are
turned on (Lord Lucas permitting) and all three lights - tail, brake and
flasher are all wired separately with the normal fail point being the
communal ground.

Subject: [midgetsprite] Metal opening & Wiring a 3rd light
I am trying to customize a 3rd light for my Morris Minor Tourer
I found a rear badge from an older model Morris.
It originally had a plastic reflector in the center.
I found a cool round red glass circle with what i would call facets or
beveling.
I started by trying to drill the cast metal out where the plastic was
missing.
As luck would have it the drill moved off center. Not a lot -
It is still a problem as i want to remove a little less then 1/4" more
a round the edge.
At that point i bought some grinding stones to make the hole larger.
The grinding stones keep loading up with the metal as i grind out the
hole.
I have tried to clean the stone with a wire brush and chipping the
residue off.
That has not worked very well - The metal has become part of the
stone.
Opening the hole has been going very slow because of the loaded up
surface.
Does any one have a suggestion on a better method or device to use?
I could use a little bigger drill bit. I will still have to grind it
again at some point.
The other problem is on the Morris the tail light goes out when
blinker.
It has to do with how it is wired through the flasher.
I could run a wire directly to the brake switch. Then it would go on
with braking.
This would give me the stop light -
How would i get the running light to work from there or should i do a
running light?
I was thinking maybe using a 1157 bulb and running another wire. Not
sure where too.
Then i thought the running light may be a bad idea .
It may not show the light as well when the brakes are applied.
Any solutions or suggestions to my dilemma would be great.
TIA,
Vigil
