I'll put two cents in on that. We bought a used '88LX 5-speed in '89 from
Hertz Rental. It was a great car. Did a long trip from San Diego to the
Canadian Rockies, back to the coast and home with the back in packed. Coming
down the San Joquine Valley at 80 mph in 95 to 100 temperatures and got 50 mpg,
most of the time it was in the low 40 mpg range. Hauled all kinds of stuff
with that car. Wish I still had it.
