David,
We are still using our 1988 American made, Maytag dishwasher as well, it
cost $700.00 back in the day, it is as loud a freight train when running,
the only money I have spent on this machine in 23 years was for a new door
seal, $50.00. I have a friend who has been an appliance repairman for over
25 years, I asked what is good to buy? His reply, buy whatever you like, its
all junk, it won't last.
