Anyone out there has has a Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, or similar truck,
that is 6 years old, or there abouts, BEWARE.
The automatic transmission models have a faulty radiator. The barrier
between the water and the transmission fluid WILL fail at around 100K. It
will pump your transmission full of water, destroying it, and costing about
5K to replace.
If you, or anyone you know, has one of these, have them research online for
themselves, and then urge them to install an aftermarket cooler. I wish I
had had someone warn me.
If anyone has the Nissan 2.5 4 cylinder from the same age range, they would
do well to replace the factory exhaust manifold with an aftermarket unit.
The original units have the catalytic converter built in at the collector
point. At around 80K, they fail. Should that happen while you are starting
your car, the engine will draw in the particles, effectively sand blasting
your piston walls.
Also, on the Altima, of this same era, when the heater stops working at
speeds below 40 mph, get used to it. Replacing the thermostat, water pump,
heater core, WILL NOT HELP! Even the dealer can not fix it, once it fails to
work correctly.
Again, get online, see for yourself.
When my wife and I got married, we had a Japanese built Datsun 310. We
bought a second one, and we loved them both. I bought the 2005 Pathfinder,
and 2005 Altima, based on our previous love of the 310. Both are USA made in
Smyrna TN. Both are total pieces of SHIT. USA all the way, my ass, at least
as far as UAW products are concerned.
FWIW, the Pathfinder radiator has a "made in USA" stamp on it. It also has a
part number on it, so if anyone is concerned that they may have the same
one, email me off list, and I can tell you what the number is.
Nissan USA WILL NOT admit fault or failure, so the bills for repair are all
your own.
BEWARE.
