Not even close. 800 to 900 HP was the norm. The Porsche 917/30 was
estimated at nearly 1200 HP in race tune and nearly 1600 HP in qualifying
tune. That HP is what caused the series to die. Total domination does not
make for a fun spectator event.
NASCAR understands that and phonies up a race to become a spectacle.
Sorry, the 510 HP Mustang may be impressive, but it's not even close to the
Porsche, or any other, Can-Am car.
Porsche forever,

"The new ROUSH P-51A engine has a preliminary rating of at least 510
horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. torque." Isn't this close to what the Can-Am cars
were running when the series died? I though the P51 was from WWII?? ...bill

I am looking at a 2009 Mustang that has a 510 HP Roush P51b engine installed
by Roush. Anybody on the list sometimes go to the dark side and know
anything good or bad about these cars. It is the fastest car I have ever
driven and sure to give the local tuners a run for their money. Plus it
could be a fun everyday driver. Keeping the Bugeye for sure just looking to
add something for year around fun.
