NNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn - bang?
The steering lock would by easily broken by any man wrenching the wheel in
an emergency. The power boost would work to get the pedal down hard and
you won't have a problem so long as you didn't pump the pedal. It's also
possible to switch back on and then off again (ask me how I know?).

Another thought concerning the wide open throttle incident...
Turning the key off might not be the best and first action to take...
unless
you have a vintage race car with no steering lock and no power booster. On
my vehicles with power brakes and steering lock, I would first put the car
in neutral (conscious I might wreck the engine), so I could easily steer
and
brake the vehicle to a safe location.
