My Dad was also a Flight Surgeon in WW II. He had a really tough job. He
worked in a climatic hangar doing the physiology on pilots that were preparing
to fly to Russia. They developed the famous leather and sheep skin flight
jackets, gloves, hats and other clothing to be used for long cold flights over
the north pole. One might wonder where this all took place? Well it was Ft.
Walton, Florida at Eglin Air Base. Yep, a -40 degree hangar on the beach!
Can you imagine the amount of power it took to drop the temp 130 degrees in
the Florida heat?
