The problem with the old cut outs was that they always leaked when
closed.

A bypass pipe in the pipe that transfers the exhaust from the pipe to the
silencer to the straight unsilenced pipe. Ilegal in British motorsport but
a part listed in 'speed' catalogues from time to time.
