It seems to me that "not being able to corner" is some what
relative. My first sports car in 1958 was a 1954 100. With bias ply
tires I would regularly make 90 degree turns at speed with only a few
cars able to keep up with me BUT this 1958-59. Also this was not "on
rails" cornering but mostly drifting the car around - - a tricky
thing to do in a 100 which liked to get the rear end in front of the
front end when pushed hard. Compared to todays cars, say a Miata,
they do not corner, they are rough riding and steer like a truck. On
the same line I finally got my bugeye really drivable and was
surprised at how hard it is to steer compared to my memory of driving
the car. Also how "slow" it is thru corners as compared to my Miata.
If the car is a BN2 I would proceed cautiously before chopping it up
and installing a V8. I am certainly not a purist but those cars are
worth a fair sum of money and there is the possibility that if may
have an important history. Check it out before making it into a
Nasty Boy.
