[Spridgets] starter bendix

I Just received a used midget 1275 starter motor from E-bay and upon
inspection, I spotted a hairline crack on the bendix in the corner of the
keyslot. Is this common ? should I just replace the bendix? or try to weld the
crack shut? Fortunatly , I don't have a lot of money in the motor and It spins
ok.
