I have a question for the engineers on the list. I have an 40+ year old
propane furnace in my restored 40+ year old Scotty camping trailer that needs
repair. The main burner on the furnace is operated by a double bulb unit
connected by a very small (1/16") cooper tube. One end is a torpedo shaped
1/4" copper tube which mounts to the bottom of the burner box and the other
end a circular steel?/aluminum expansion piece which operates the main burner
gas valve. When the torpedo end gets hot the fluid in it expands and causes
the other end to expand and shut off the main burner gas valve. The very small
tube broke off the end of the torpedo end when I dropped the burner unit while
doing some maintenance on it.

I have reattached/repaired this but now for my question, What type of fluid
is used? It had a feel/smell of either kerosene or light mineral oil.

Yes I have tried to source a replacement but have not been successful. There
are new units that have the same torpedo shaped end but the expandable button
end on the other end are all to big.

Any help would be appreciated. Spring turkey season is next week !!!!!!!!
