I am planning out my "sympathetic fixer-up'in" of my '76. I recently got a
set of seats from a fellow Spridgeteer for a good price and good early
morning drive with my wife. Upon returning to the shop I realized that my
interior is probably autumn leaf, not the harvest gold of my replacement
seats. Weren't the seventies great? Since I will take my 4 seats apart and
end up with 2 anyway, I will probably have to skin the seats. Has anyone
tried a cheap method of dyeing the vinyl in our cars to have a uniform
black? Black would match the carpet, and I assume would be the easiest to
get all materials to a similar hue. Most of my interior panels are already
faded, stained, dusted with several colors of overspray, so no great loss.
I will put forth a few things for the group to consider.
1) Any dye must hold up to the sweaty backside in nice clothes
test.
2) In light of the current economy, I need to keep it pretty
cheap.
3) I have two cats, but WILL NOT skin them for the cause.
4) I don't currently own guns, nor do I think they would
really help this problem. Might make me feel better to shoot the old seats,
but wouldn't really help.
