They are the same. I had a "non alternator" kill switch and didn't realize it
until I added an alternator and the switch didn't kill anything. I tried diodes
and other stupid human tricks before I learned that I had the wrong type of
switch. I don't remember the wiring, but I got a proper switch, wired per the
diagram and it works properly now.
