Unfortunately UNF and UNC are in fact American threads, invented by the
Americans. We switched to UNF and UNC during WWII as part of war
standardisation
or whatever and began to abandon the Whitworth system from that point
onwards. Later we abandoned UNF and UNC for the Metric system.
