I have had 3.5 rims actually rub if you have to run a 155 or 165 section tire.  
I guess that you can run 6 in. rims if you don't mind a little rubbing ;^).  
I have to think that maybe they had a different offset to them?  Anyways, it 
doesn't matter just modify the wheel arch as every racer does.  They look OK 
that way if they are done correctly.
