Definitely no smoking... I'm pretty sure the "fuel guage" was a sight glass 
that passed through that cardboard dash, allowing a direct visual indicator of 
the amount of fuel in the tank... by "sight glass" i mean clear plastic tube 
connected to the bottom and top of the tank....
