OK, guys. I have what is a real stumper here or you all will find it really
simple and a no-brainer.
I have a 948 cc Sprite engine that fires on every cylinder except #1.
Cylinders 2,3, and 4, just fine. No spark at the number one cylinder. The
948 had a miss that would only show up every now and then and then it started
showing up more when the engine became hot. I have replaced things one at a
time to try and find the culprit. I looked at the timing with a strobe light
gun so I know that number one was firing. I have replaced the following:
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires and coil wire to solid real wire (not carbon)
New Accel Chrome coil (pretty)
distributor cap
rotor
new points
then no points - Crane XR700 electronic ignition
New spark plugs again - then I tried taking a new spark plug and placing it in
the Spark plug wire boot and turning the motor over with the spark plug near
(against) the generator bolt as a ground. cylinders 2,3,4 have good spark.
No spark at cylinder one.
The photo optic shutter of the crane XR700 has to fire on number one if it is
firing on 2,3, and 4. It is a simple mechanism. The motor runs on the three
cylinders but now I can't even check the timing etc. Though none of that
should have changed as I switched all of the parts at top dead center on the
the number lead.
Please help me figure this one out!
Thanks guys and gals.
Mike
