[Spridgets] Rib Case Gear box question

Hi-

I'm attempting to reassemble the remote control assembly back to the
gearbox, and I just can't seem to get the shaft to mesh up with the forks
properly.  I have the Haynes book and I just can't seem to find any hints on
reassembly.

I have no idea why the previous owner took this apart.  

Any hints?
