Actually, Jim, there was no upgrade version. It is possible to do it as an
upgrade (I emailed instructions to Daniel off-list), but there are a couple
of gotchas.
Yes, XP handles USB much better than 98 did, but as long as you install the
Win98 drivers before connecting the equipment (assuming there ARE Win98
drivers for it), it worked fine.
