Hi Hal,
Some are interchangeable, sort of!
The 948 is the heaviest at slightly over 20 lbs.
Our favorite sought after 1275 comes in at about 15 1/2 lbs.
Last comes the 1098 weighing in at it's corner with about 15 lbs
The 948 and 1/34 main 1098 would be interchangeable but the clutch covers
are not. So, if you want a lighter 1098 flywheel on a 948 you get the
larger and heavier 1098 cover and disc to go with it. You also need the
matching TO bearing for the cover.
The 1275 will only work on a 1275 as it has 6 bolt holes and 2 alignment
pins and doesn't match up with any other engine. The others have 4 holes.
It also has a slightly different center hole that won't fit on any other
crankshaft.
The center holes of the 948 and 1 3/4" 1098 are 1.750"
The center hole of a 2" main 1098 is 2". No surprise there!
The 1275 center hole is about 1.7"
All the engine crankshafts will have a matching machined area that mates
with the flywheel for centering purposes.
Sooo, if you want to put a 2" main 1098 flywheel on a 1 3/4" main engine,
likely not a good plan as the matching area on the flywheel will be 2" and
there will be only the bolts that center it. Not a good plan!!
The flywheels, other than the 1275, are a cinch to lighten, so why not try
that?
Hope this answers some of your question
Later, Paul A
