1500 1976 Midget

List,

A friend of mine has a 1976 Midget (1500 engine) which is giving him a problem
he is unable to solve.   Over night his new battery goes flat.   When he takes
the ignition key out a red light on the dash comes on.   (He believes the red
light is the voltage light.)   The alternator has 3 wires to it.   When he
disconnects the brown/yellow wire (engine not running) the light goes off.
Any idea what the problem is?
