Not really. The Chinese did not buy it to compete in the world market
against the Miata or the Yugo (if, horrors, it were ever to be
resurrected). They bought it because they have 1,313,973,713+ (yes,
that is billion) people including a booming middle class that they have
to satisfy. Oh, China may be "communist", but they like all of the
capitalist pleasures of life. That rising middle class has more and
more disposable income, and they are tired of bicycles and scooters.
They are demanding cars, and the Chinese government, through their car
manufacturers, had better deliver. The Modern Gentleman will meet that
demand, and sales in China alone would make sales in America look puny!
Will they try to flog a few in America or the UK? You bet, if only for
the ego value of selling MG's here.
And if the Chinese don't like the Modern Gentleman? Sorry, such
questions are now allowed in China.
