That's because of the exorbitant tax the Chancellor of the Exchequer 
puts on it to pay for government boon-doggles...
AND, don't forget.... we pump a lot of oil out of the ground and the 
gulf... the Brit's don't have that luxury...
AND, their gallon has 160 fl oz and our gallon only has 128 fl oz. So 
they get 12% more gas per gallon than we do...,.
