Hi,
I'm generally against "new" carbs to solve a problem. Unless the carbs are
worn out, then you should be able to make them work. You should either
master the current carbs or get someone who is good with them to work on
them. Otherwise you may spend several hundred bucks and still have the same
problem.
If the motor was recently put together then pull the valve cover, re-torque
the head, and re- set the valve lash, then move on to carb setup.
Racing or runaway SUs that don't want to idle down are usually caused by air
leaks.
Make sure the carb pistons move freely. You didn't switch the dashpot
bodies, did you?
Don't get discouraged. SU carbs are simple and great. You can overcome
their quirks with some patience.
