The current issue of Healey Marque contains an article by Mr Doug
Reid (aka MrFinespanner of 18G Motorworks) about the bung fitting in
after market gas tanks for Austin Healeys, Jags and ?? seems like
that was a mismatch between pipe and straight threads and to make
matters worse, the proper thread and the mis-fit thread were only one
thread per inch different. Guys apparently just thought the fit was
tight not realizing the problem. Several cars almost went up in
smoke. MrFinespanner offers a solution for the problem (an adaptor
fitting) and he and other have apparently gotten after the vendors
selling the tanks to get things right.
So, for those of the Spridget persuasion, are you checking those
fittings? Are the after market tanks OK?
